  Baby On Board!

My husband and I are expecting our first baby in October of this year. We are very EXCITED...

NERVOUS...happy...SCARED...elated...WORRIED...overjoyed...and just feel so very BLESSED. So does baby, evidently (shown below with hands in the air at a recent ultrasound.)

With a new baby on the way, we are looking forward to a lot of firsts. However, we know that with all of these firsts come lots of new emotions, concerns, and questions. So, all of you veterans out there...what would be your #1 piece of advice to those of us who are "rookies" at this whole parenting thing?

Ready? Go!

  Roller Coaster Weather

Last week I had the windows open while cleaning the house...this week? Well, that's a different story. This, my friends, is the wonderful roller coaster of weather in Wisconsin.

One of the biggest struggles with everchanging weather for me is deciding what to wear. I've simplified it for you below with three key pieces that are sure to keep you along for the ride.

1) A cashmere INC poncho: I own three myself. Throw it over a tshirt with jeans and sneakers and you're good to go. An easy layer to keep warm but comes off easily as the sun comes out. When it's really cold, you can bundle up in your poncho used as a scarf! We have a million cute colors in store :)

2) A denim jacket: Again, I have several. This is a go-to piece for me all year long. An easy extra layer, warm but cute and you'll never look too stuffy. Always keep a spare in your car for those spring baseball games or summer evenings by the lake.

3) Vests of all shapes and colors: Too warm for a jacket but too cool for a sweater? Throw on a vest with your cashmere poncho (scarf) and you're sure to be set.

  Sneak Attack, Trend Alert!

Sneak Attack, Trend Alert!

The days of scrunched up toes and aching feet are over. Well, maybe not entirely. We will most likely still have to throw on the occasional pump to go to a cocktail party, but for daytime...bring on the sneakers!!! I'm a t-shirt and jeans kind of gal, so the sneakers were expected in my wardrobe. But we've taken it a step further...pair your favorite sneakers with a dress, a dressier ankle pant, your favorite jeans, and more! How will you wear your sneakers?

With Skirts & Dresses

With a Dressier Pant

Casual Wear

Cheers to comfort gone cute!

  Silk 'N More Backstory

SILK ‘N MORE Scarves and Shawls
The Backstory

Shortly after opening my Brookfield, Wisconsin clothing boutique in 2002, I met Ritika Bhatia, the founder of Silk ‘N More (and a Brookfield resident). The synergy of our two businesses was immediately apparent to both of us. The rest is history: Ritika’s beautiful shawls and scarves are a mainstay in our accessories offering (and in my personal wardrobe!).

I love Ritika’s telling of her personal journey.
“My earliest memories of my childhood in India are playing amongst the piles of fabrics in my father’s factory. My mother would be nearby working at her drawing board with graph paper, making new patterns for the shawls.

When I married and moved to the United States with my family, my focus was raising my two children.  Now that my daughter is in DC, and my son busy in high school, I have been evolving my Silk ‘N More business. My desire is to blend and alter the traditional Indian products with Western aesthetics.”

All Silk ‘N More products are handmade in small batches. The finishes are usually one-of-a-kind. Cashmere, pashmina, wool, silk and cotton are used in different and unusual combinations. Weaves include Jamawar, jacquard, paisley, and kantha. Kreul embroidery and sequins adorn Ritika’s more embellished pieces.

Ritika’s mission is to honor the heritage of the traditional Indian fabric art with an eye to Western trends.

In addition to shawls and scarves, the Silk ‘N More collection includes home furnishing textiles and an assortment of wearable art.

Don’t miss Faye’s expanded Silk ‘N More holiday selection at both our Milwaukee boutiques. Choose the perfect last minute gift. These shawls and scarves are also the piece d’resistance for your holiday wardrobe.
Prices range from $59-$350.

It's Time for Football and Chili!

It's that time of year again. The leaves are falling and I'm ready for football and chili! White chicken chili is one of my favorites. Enjoy!

Ingredients
2 (14.5-ounce) cans white beans
1 tablespoon canola oil
1 medium jalapeno pepper, minced
2 medium poblano peppers, chopped
1 large onion, chopped
4 garlic cloves, minced
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 1/2 teaspoons ground coriander
1 teaspoon ancho chili powder
4 cups low-sodium chicken broth
2 limes, juiced, plus lime wedges, for serving
1 rotisserie chicken, skin removed and meat shredded
1/4 cup chopped cilantro leaves
Sour cream, for topping
Tortilla chips, coarsely crushed, for topping

Directions
Drain and rinse the canned white beans. In a medium bowl, mash half of the beans with a potato masher until chunky. Reserve the beans until needed.

Add the canola oil to a large Dutch oven and heat it over medium-high heat. Add the peppers, onions, and garlic and saute until soft and fragrant, about 5 minutes. Season the vegetables with salt, and pepper, to taste. Add the cumin, coriander, and chili powder and continue to saute for 1 more minute to toast the spices. Stir in the chicken stock, and lime juice and bring to a simmer. Add the beans and continue to simmer for 20 more minutes.

After 20 minutes of simmering, taste for seasoning, and adjust if necessary. Stir in the shredded rotisserie chicken and cilantro and simmer until heated through, about 5 more minutes. Serve the chili in individual bowls topped with a dollop of sour cream, crushed tortilla chips, and lime wedges.

Faye's Designer of the Month for October is M-Missoni

Bold. Fresh. Confident. Adjectives that accurately describe the Italian fashion house of Missoni.

Faye’s Boutiques announce M Missoni as the October Designer of the Month.

Missoni history starts with “love at first site” : Ottavio Missoni and Rosita Jelmini locked eyes during the London Olympic Games in 1948, where Missoni was competing as a hurdler. Together, they opened a knitwear shop, and after a few years collaborated with French designer, Emmanuelle Kahn, on a fashion show in Milan. Jelmini sent the models down the runway bra-less (!) in see-through blouses... News of this “scandal” spread…the Missoni name gained notoriety, and boutiques opened up worldwide.

M Missoni takes no prisoners when it comes to bold color and design. Their zig zag knitwear pattern is iconic. Worn by royalty such as Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, to pop stars like Fergie, M Missoni’s appeal is broad.

Faye’s Milwaukee Boutiques are celebrating this distinctive style by spotlighting the M-Missoni collection and accessories in their Mequon store October 9-12th and in their Brookfield store October 16-19th

Make sure to mark your calendar for these two weekends.

Oh, did we mention that M-Missoni is exclusive to Faye’s in Wisconsin?

Faye's Designer of the Month is Lafayette 148 New York

Named after its street address in Manhattan, Lafayette 148 New York is having a trunk show at Faye’s in Mequon from Thursday, Sept. 4- Sept. 7th and at Faye’s in Brookfield from Sept. 11- Sept. 14th.  With winter whites, neutrals and beautiful soft lambskin, we understand why Lafayette 148 New York is a staple in the closets of A-list celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and Queen Latifah.

Label designer Edward Wilkerson draws upon inspirations from his travels through Morocco and Kenya. He has designed his line to speak to the modern sophisticated woman and her busy lifestyle. Many of his designs can be worn from day into night all of his pieces are made with the highest quality European fabric. Lambskin leather is known for being one of the finest and most luxurious materials. Wilkerson has beautifully handcrafted lambskin jackets and skirts in his collection. Our favorite is the Tissue Weight Lambskin Stelly Jacket.

Neutrals are on trend this fall and Lafayette 148 New York does a fantastic job at bringing pieces that are both versatile and stylish with a touch of elegance. This fabulous Lustrous Silk Crocodile Maddie Top is a perfect addition to your closet. It transitions seamlessly from day to night.

Cozy pieces like this lux Cashmere Knit Collar are what get us in the mood for fall and sweater weather.

Faye’s is extremely excited for the Lafayette 148 New York Trunk Show to come to both our Mequon and Brookfield stores. Make sure to mark you calendar today for this exclusive event!

  Ready to Transition

Well it's officially September...the kids are back to school, soon the leaves will change color, and we'll be pulling out our sweaters. Some may complain...but I love the fall. The food, the holidays, and my fall wardrobe! With fall comes an array of beautiful colors, fabrics, and textures. Who doesn't love a soft, chunky sweater while watching our Badgers and Packers while eating a nice bowl of chili.

While Fall is great, for some, the transition period can be tricky. Can I still wear my summer tanks and dresses? When do I stop wearing white? Well...not all of your summer wardrobe has to go away. Pair your summer tank or dress with a great skinny jean or legging. Throw on a denim jacket or blazer with your ballet flats and you're set for a day out. Pair your white pants with an ankle boot and a heavy knit sweater and transitioning into fall is a success!

So...what pieces are you taking into fall and how are you doing it?

  Back outside and thinking spring!

Hank Brewer has some competition in Hank Bauer!  Hank is back outside and tearing up the trails! We recently moved to Brookfield and I just discovered a nice new trail by our house. It is nice to finally have some sunshine and fresh air. We’ve been playing outside and thinking spring all week, I even busted out a few pairs of sandals! I encourage everyone to get outside, go for a walk, a run, or sit out for a cocktail…it does wonders for the soul!

  Law of the Garbage Truck

"The Law of the Garbage Truck" -Author Unknown

I came across this story the other day and found it inspirational...

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches!

The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly. So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!' This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck'.

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally, just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.

  Back to School

It's that time of year again! Back to school for all the boys and girls. I, too, was headed back to school earlier this week. While I am excited to go back to school, I am even MORE excited to graduate in May! The first day of school this year, meant so much more than any other. I started realizing all that I've accomplished and that another journey is soon coming to an end. So, MY first day of school was bitter-sweet. For so long, so many people told me to enjoy this time of my life because "it will go by fast!" But of course, I never quite realized just how fast it really would fly by. With one journey soon to end, I look forward to what my future holds. So here's to another year!

  Hiking with Hank :)

I have a 9 month old puppy with lots of energy, so we go on many adventures! One of our favorite things to do is go exploring. Hank, my Aussiedoodle, loves to run through the "jungle" at the Katherine Kearney Carpenter dog park in Mequon. It's a beautiful off-leash dog park with lots of trails through the woods as well as a stream for the dogs to play in! It's also a good way for me to get a good walk in :) There's an open field, as well, where all of the dogs can play together. Just be sure your dog listens to you well! My little guy loves to run here and comes home one tired puppy! Take your dog for a hike there and perhaps you'll see Hank!
