5 Tips for not overeating this Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is around the corner and it's one of the most anticipated meals of the year. If your family is anything like mine, the event starts in the morning for a feast that lasts throughout the day and consists of enough food to feed a regiment.

So, want to make sure that you still fit into your pants on Friday? Follow these tips

1. Don't skip breakfast or lunch- Be sure to make eating a healthy breakfast part of your Thanksgiving eating plan. Eat solid yet light meals so your feast isn’t the first bite of food in the day.

2. Veggies for appetizers are always a good idea- Skip the fatty, cheesy appetizers and stick with the crudités. Raw vegetables are not only low in calories, they are high in fiber, which will help you detox after your big meal.

3. Chat it up- One easy way to slow down and enjoy your meal is to talk to your neighbors. Thanksgiving is all about friends and family so take the time to catch up with your loved ones.

4. Have a piece of pie, but just one- Apple, pecan, pumpkin — no Thanksgiving meal is complete without a taste of pie. But you don’t need a piece of each kind. Grab a slice and savor each bite.

5. Leftovers- Probably the best part of Thanksgiving, am I right? Remind yourself that you will see this food again, most likely the following day so no need to cram every last bite of sweet potato with marshmallows in. Turkey is great hot or cold and all the fixings reheat nicely. Just be sure to toss the pie after a day or two – no need to keep the sweet temptation around for too long!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

  Chicago Market

Last week Tuesday, I had the pleasure of going to market with our lead buyer, Linda. Although I have worked in two boutqiues previous to Faye's, I had never been on a buying trip so I was anxious and excited as I took the train down. I met Linda to look at Splendid, John and Jen, Vintage Havana and Jenny Bird. We placed orders for immediate deliveries as well as for spring and summer and going forward. I could not be more excited for what we picked - rust colors, chambray romper, white graduation dresses, and playful tops from Splendid, big hoops from Jenny Bird. We then went on to look at 360 Sweaters and Ugg. Their classic soft, cozy lining was found in luxe robes, comfy sweatshirts and sweatpants, and their fabulous throws that we carried around the holidays. We will have those again in more colors as well as a plaid robe for men, and earmuffs that you can listen to music through! We placed an order with Margaret OLeary- an old time favorite of Faye's! We only had a few hours before the Merchandise Mart closed, so we had to make it quick! We looked at quite a few play lines that are going to be great as we head into the warmer months! Elan had easy, breezy summer pieces at a great price point as well as Lavand, Renee C, and Esley. One of my favorite lines that we looked at was FRENCH. We carried this line around the holidays and the collection still looks fresh and light! I loved the bright yellow, soft blues, and clean white that were in a lot of the pieces we picked. Up next was Bailey 44- modern and chic. I'm so excited for everything we selected and can't wait for it to hit the floor!

  Eat, Drink, and Be Merry!

It's our favorite time of the year! A time for giving, for spending time with family...and a time for holiday parties! Between ugly sweater parties and company celebrations, I find myself going through my closet and struggling to pick out the perfect outfit. This weekend, the women of Faye's will be gathering together for our annual holiday party hosted at Faye and Rick's home. I'm more than excited to attend, but I can't seem to decide what to wear! Vote for your favorite option and help me find the most festive look for Sunday!

OPTION 1: French Connection cream dress, J.Crew black polka dot tights, Charles David black pumps

OPTION 2: Kate Spade dress, J.Crew tights and necklace, Tory Burch heels

OPTION 3: Yoana Baraschi burgundy jumpsuit, black Tory Burch booties

  New Kid on the Block

My first blog post- so here it goes.. For those of you that do not know me, I joined the Faye's team as a full time sales associate in mid-July. After my first 60 days, all I can say is, wow! I could not be more excited to be apart of such a wonderful company.

Before working at Fay's, I attended Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. While earning my degree in elementary education, I got my first taste of retail experience at small boutique called Thread. It wasn't until I left Thread and began my work at another boutique, Tuni, where I really fell in love with fashion and the small business workplace. During my time at Tuni, I worked closely with our customers as well as our vendors. After graduating this May, I returned home to Milwaukee and decided not to pursue a career in education, but to chase after my passion in fashion. I knew that I wanted to work for a small, locally owned boutique similiar to Tuni. So,  I applied to Faye's and have loved every minute since!

I've learned more about the fashion industry and all that goes into our fabulous store locations than I ever imagined. I split my time between the Mequon and Brookfield locations and have enjoyed getting to know not only our great customers, but my fabulous coworkers as well. They have been so patient and kind to this newbie, and I could not be more thankful. So for those of you heading off to Florida for the winter, stop in one of our stores and wish me luck as I brave the cold this year!

xoxo, Lauren
