  Know Your Designer: Trina Turk

Christmas is Friday and I am trying to get into the spirit as best I can despite the lack of wintery weather. Check out the Buche de Noel (Yule Log cake) I made last Saturday (it only took 6 hours) for a holiday party!

Even though it is holiday time and sequins and chunky sweaters are on the mind, as a buyer, I can’t help thinking ahead, and at Faye’s Women’s Boutique in Mequon and Brookfield, Pre-Spring deliveries are already hitting the floor for your viewing (and purchasing) pleasure! A collection that just landed and is making me think of sunny days is Trina Turk’s. Here is what you need to know about the pattern-and-color-rich line:

  • Trina is a California native, and the Golden State’s multicultural mix is a consistent source of inspiration.
  • Her modern and optimistic outlook is translated into her designs, full of dynamic prints and bold hues.
  • The line was founded in 1995 by Turk and her husband, Jonathan Skow, and has evolved into an iconic lifestyle brand, including women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, accessories, swimwear, and activewear.

Faye’s current lineup is a mixture of navy, hot pink, and bright orange in the shape of silk palazzo pants, graphic print blouses and dresses, and a to-die-for navy camo jacket with hot pink tweed trim. The collection is live in our Brookfield store now, so come grab a Christmas cookie and take a peek!

  Know Your Designer: Kalibre

The KALIBRE Jewelry Trunk Show is a Faye’s holiday tradition.

Twice a year (May and December), our rep, John Istwan, makes his way to the Faye’s stores with literally hundreds of pieces of jewelry in sterling silver, gold vermeil, rose gold, and platinum (many pieces are studded with semi-precious stones).

For over two decades, Faye’s customers have been collecting Kalibre.  Faye says, “At least 80% of my personal jewelry is Kalibre!  I buy other designers and mix them in, but Kalibre is my mainstay.  My Kalibre link bracelet has been on my wrist virtually every day for close to 20 years.”

Not familiar with the Kalibre phenom?

-Harlene Korey is the designer.  Timeless elegance is the hallmark of Harlene’s designs.  She says, “I design jewelry that is progressive, structured in design, yet relaxed and comfortable.  The attitude is always sophisticated, but I like my customers to wear their Kalibre with jeans and a t-shirt as well as a cocktail dress.  I’ve coined the phrase  ‘drop-dead casual!’.”

-All jewelry is designed and created in house. Don’t see exactly what you want? Chances are Harlene will create it for you.

Kalibre is perfect for gift giving with a wide range of prices.  (Although the real thrill is buying your personal first piece or adding to your collection.)

The festivities begin in our Mequon location on Thursday, December 3rd and travel to our Brookfield location beginning Thursday, December 10th.

We look forward to sharing our Kalibre Holiday Tradition with you.

  Know Your Designer: Shoshanna Lee

Beautiful jewels are always a good reason to come and check out Faye’s Women’s Boutique in Mequon and Brookfield, WI, and new-to-Faye’s brand Shoshanna Lee Jewelry is no exception! Beginning in our Mequon store this Friday, November 6, the trunk show event will showcase designer Sandee Zahn’s standout pieces.

Zahn started her career in Los Angeles as a Raiderette for the LA Raiders. She then transitioned into the modeling scene in the 80’s, where she was first exposed to the fashion industry. Her modeling journey took her to Chicago, where she now resides with her husband and two children.

Zahn has been exploring the primitive nature of human behavior and the inner-self for the last 30 years, and it has been fundamental in her creative process. Her designs contrast precious and primitive, which she notes reflects the dichotomy and duality that exist in all of us.

She hand picks the precious stones that she uses, finding much inspiration in them.

My personal favorite piece includes delicate oxidized silver chain links that form a pendant necklace with hints of gold links to create added interest, perfect for layering or to stand alone.

The trunk show event will move to our Brookfield location on Thursday, November 12th. We can’t wait for you to see why Shoshanna Lee Jewelry has gotten us so excited!

Know Your Designer: The Giving Keys

The Giving Keys: re-purposed keys engraved with an inspiration!
Breathe...Faith...Grateful...Strength...Love...Create...

This jewelry collection of necklaces and bracelets is the new favorite at Faye’s Women’s Boutiques in Brookfield and Mequon and a thoughtful gift idea for the holidays!

The Giving Keys founder, Caitlin Crosby, started her career as a singer.  On tour, she would wear her hotel key around her neck for safe keeping.  She recognized this utility as fashion, and The Giving Keys was created!

The charitable mission of the company was sparked by Caitlin’s acquaintance of two homeless individuals. Through artistic collaboration and working with Caitlin on The Giving Keys, her acquaintances saved money and were able to rebuild their lives.

In 2013, Ms. Crosby partnered with Chrysalis, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a pathway to self-sufficiency for homeless and low-income individuals by providing the resources and support needed to find and retain employment.

Caitlin sees the used, rep-purposed keys as symbols of our plights as humans:  “unique, flawed, scarred, and sometimes discarded by others”.

Currently, the Giving Keys are carried in specialty department stores and boutiques across the globe. Homelessness knows no boundaries, and wearing and/or giving a Giving Key is a small gesture that raises awareness and helps the plight.

We invite you to Faye’s Women’s Boutiques in Brookfield and Mequon to view the collection and continue the conversation.

  Know Your Designer: Current/Elliott

Faye’s Women’s Boutiques in Mequon and Brookfield  feature leading premium denim brands, and one that we are very excited about is Current/Elliott. Since its launch in 2008, the brand has evolved to include  ready-to-wear that pairs back to their denim seamlessly.

Stylist duo, Emily Current and Merritt Elliott, partnered with chief creative officer, Serge Azria, to fuse innovative design with tailored product. Their love for vintage denim and its Americana roots was the initial inspiration.  Each style pays homage to a pillar moment in denim’s American timeline through iconic fits and silhouettes.

Current Elliott is credited with the innovation of the boyfriend jeans, a style I personally cannot live without! All hail the Current/Elliott team that brought this denim staple into my life.

The brand has had past creative collaborations with the likes of Marni, DVF, and Mary Kantrantzou, to name a few.

The Current/Elliott collection is inspired by the past but looks to the future with innovation and originality.

In addition to jeans, Current/Elliott graphic tees, cozy sweaters, destructed denim jackets, and beautiful coats, keep us looking cool from head to toe.

Try a pair for yourself! Advocated by tons of staffers, Current/Elliott jeans are a Faye’s favorite.

Know Your Designer: Day Birger et Mikkelsen

Day Birger et Mikkelsen debuts at Faye’s Women’s boutique in Mequon and Brookfield to my personal delight.  I am so excited (and anxious) to see your reaction!

In my book, the Scandinavian designer, Keld Mikkelsen, is brilliant. Influenced by his world travels he brings an east-meets-west perspective to the collection.

“Fusion” and “Everday Couture” are Mikkelsen’s guiding design principles. Fusion is seen in the meld of romanticism and minimalism, refined lines and raw edges, clean shapes with embellishment. The everyday couture aspect of Mikkelsen’s designs is seen in the collection’s wearable nature. The highest quality fabrics and construction create true “forever pieces”.

From a structured, tailored jacket to a high-neck ruffled blouse to a clean-cut, crisp button-up, there is undoubtedly a piece in this collection that will be a long-standing love in your closet. It’s hard not to appreciate the attention to detail, craftsmanship, and overall unique design.

If you are a fan of Theory, Vince, or Rag and Bone, Day Birger et Mikkelsen is the collection for you. Pop in and take a peek at this exciting new addition!

Faye’s women’s boutiques in Brookfield and Mequon are the only stores in Wisconsin to carry this eponymous collection.

  Know Your Designer: Pink Tartan

Faye’s Women’s Boutique in Brookfield and Mequon is thrilled to be hosting a Pink Tartan Collection Event through Wednesday, August 26th

This lifestyle brand was founded in 2002 and is designed by Kimberley Newport-Mimran.  The collection features luxe and technical fabrics, unique details, and wearable designs that take you from day to dinner seamlessly. Newport-Mimran is a self-proclaimed sportswear designer, intending her pieces to be life-friendly, effortless, and stylish simultaneously. Wardrobe staples are plentiful, enhanced by colors and prints that evolve every season.

Newport-Mimran designs the collection at her studio in Canada; her showrooms are in New York and LA. Pink Tartan is carried in specialty department stores and boutiques across North America, Central America, the Middle East and Europe.

Interesting personal notes about Mimran?  She  is married to Joe Mimran, founder of Club Monaco!  Together they split their time between Toronto, New York and Palm Beach. The couple have a daughter Jacqueline, born in 2001. A recent addition to the family is Max Mimran, the family’s beloved French bulldog.

Our current lineup at Faye’s deserves a double-take. The fall assortment is chock-full of fringe detail, deep maroon and forest green colorways, cozy knits, and sleek pants. A graphic swirl-patterned blazer takes center stage, while a tonal leopard print dress is appropriate for the office or your next cocktail party. A no-brainer in my book is the mustard yellow mohair cardigan: oversized and v-neck …doesn’t this sound like the perfect fall staple? Oh, and did I mention that there are vegan leather gauchos? You heard that right—vegan leather gauchos. (!!)

The event is currently in Mequon through August 19th.  It will be featured at our Brookfield store from August 20-26th.  Most pieces are cash and carry; some are special order for future deliveries.

Know Your Designer: Rag & Bone

It might be easier for a buyer to get an audience with the Pope than to schedule an appointment in the New York showroom of Rag & Bone.  But, we persevered, and this fall we debut Rag & Bone at Faye’s women’s boutiques in Brookfield and Mequon.

Rag & Bone, was founded in 2002 byDavid Neville and Marcus Wainwright. It has gained notoriety as  the go-to brand for all things tailored yet edgy.

Industry recognition for Neville and Wainwright include a Swarovski Award and the coveted CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) award in 2010.

Clean silhouettes, great fabrics, and quality construction are the hallmarks of Rag & Bone. Our debut collection features their iconic boots, coveted denim, effortlessly chic ready-to-wear, and classic-cool leather goods.

A personal favorite? The Newbury boot! I have owned this boot for almost 3 years.  I’m hard on my poor shoes, but my Newburys have defied the test of time and pavement and still look ravishing. Did I mention they are an uber comfortable heel height and a year-round staple? The must-have boot, in my eyes!

Rag & Bone is the wardrobe of the ultimate sophisticate.

Faye’s women’s boutiques in Mequon and Brookfield are the only stores to feature Rag & Bone in Milwaukee!

  The Wonderful World of Earrings

It all started when I was gifted my first pair of earrings...the classic interlocking Chanel C's, via my ever-so-thoughtful brother who assumed all girls had their ears pierced. I had been terrified of the thought of a needle poking my precious lobes ever since my 10-year-old scaredy cat self witnessed a friend cry out in agonizing pain at Claire's. Needless to say, I had never wanted to go through the hole punching myself.

"But they are Chanel!", I thought. Tears were shed, and holes were made.

The piercings lasted about a month until I couldn't stand how I looked with these newfound adornments any longer. But what was I to do with these glorious earrings?

Fast forward half a decade. Our resident accessory manipulator, Tiffany, modeled her earrings on the collar of a crisp white blouse one day at Faye's and I knew a solution to my problem had been found.

Below is a pair of adorable star earrings now available at Faye's (for $19!) used in a variety of ways that would satisfy my desire to not waste earrings, and hopefully inspire you to think outside the lobes as well:

Example 1: Adorning shirt collars (Equipment blouse, $279)

Example 2: Pin-esque on a denim jacket (Liverpool jacket, $89)

Example 3: In lieu of buttons (Missoni cardigan,$519)
