Designer of the Week: Allen Allen

Designed and made in the USA, Allen Allen is the Designer of the Week at Faye’s women’s clothing boutiques in Brookfield and Mequon.

Allen Allen’s first collection debuted in l986, and has never strayed from their vision of simple, easy casual clothing.

Like many other lifestyle collections, Allen Allen is inspired by California’s beaches. Drawstring and pull-on bottoms; sweatshirts, tanks, t-shirts;  dresses that go from swimsuit cover-up to grocery shopping are all part of this aesthetic. Cotton, linen, and French Terry are favorite fabrics.  Everything is shrink-tested – these are clothes that are meant to be worn and washed and worn and washed and worn and washed!

Fell in love with a particular piece of Allen Allen in your wardrobe?  Chances are good it will re-surface in the next delivery in a different color…in tie dye… or camo…or…

With more than 100 styles in over 30 colors every season, these are truly the clothes you love to live in.  It’s more than a brand – it’s a lifestyle.

Faye’s women’s clothing boutiques in Brookfield and Mequon have featured Allen Allen since opening our doors in 1991!  Both Mequon and Brookfield just received new deliveries!

  Travel must-haves

Anyone who knows me, can tell you that I love to travel. I have been traveling internationally since I was 8-years old. 18 different countries and 37 states later, I might know a little about clothing must-haves when traveling. For over a month I wandered throughout Southeast Asia with only a small backpack which held all my belongings. I did not have any cute Tory Burch shoes or Free People dresses, but if space is limited a few fashion statements can make all the difference.

1. Scarves- Spice up a plain shirt with a scarf. (We can all get tired of the same old same old, but a scarf can make all the difference.) Also when the evening becomes chilly, a scarf makes a great wrap.

2. Wrinkle free dress- Face it, traveling can be rushed and no one has time for a wrinkly dress. Wrinkle free dresses saves a lot of time and energy.

3. Dressy outfit- You may be going on vacation to bum on the beach, but you never know if something informal becomes formal. It is better to be prepared. I cannot tell you enough how many times this tip has come in handy. (My grandpa even uses this tip and always brings a just-in-case tie.)

4. Ballet Flats- Perfect slipping on and off for airport security or for a nice dinner out on the town!

5. Flexible necklaces and earrings- basic colors or simple patterns in jewelry are always great to match up to your travel-wear!

Side note: For long trips (backpacking) in particular you'll need to choose fabrics that can wash and dry quickly and easily...I learned that the hard way!

Designer of the Week: Julie Cohn

Julie Cohn is the Designer Of The Week at Faye’s women’s boutiques in Mequon and Brookfield.

The organic aesthetic of Cohn’s jewelry is inspired by 20th century sculptors Noguchi, Calder, and Brancusi. She says, “I envision my jewelry as small sculptures that can be layered and stacked to create unique collages.”

Made entirely in the United States, Ms. Cohn’s workshop process starts with hand-made wax carvings; all the pieces are hand-finished in Dallas.

Cohn has lived and worked in Dallas for over 30 years. She began her career as a painter and printmaker. This path as an artist lead to designing and making jewelry.

Cohn’s husband is a landscape architect; and the gardens and landscapes surrounding the home they share with their daughter are a constant source of inspiration.

Visit Faye’s women’s clothing stores in Brookfield and Mequon to view this stunning jewelry collection.
